Today we’re announcing the Tap Watch Band — a wearable controller that replaces your Apple Watch band and turns your wrist into an input device.
Tap Watch Band houses an optical sensor and a six-axis IMU on the underside of the band. Together they detect 145 distinct finger gestures: taps, pinches, swipes, thumb swipes and air gestures. The gestures run through an on-device classifier and out to your devices as standard Bluetooth HID commands.
Why now?
AI smart glasses are arriving — Meta Ray-Ban, Brilliant Labs, Even Realities, Solos, and more on the way. They give you a heads-up display, a camera and an assistant. What they don’t yet have is a great input layer. Touch panels on the temple are fiddly. Voice is awkward in public. Hand-tracking only works when the cameras can see your hands.
The wrist is always there. Always still. Always ready.
